K G Saiyidain Commemorative conference held at MET Baghat Campus
Srinagar, Sep 17: The "K G Saiyidain Commemorative Conference" was held at the MET Baghaat Campus which saw besides a number of academics , experts , teachers and teacher educators and people from a cross-section of civil society take part.
Members of the MET Advisory Council, G R Sufi, Prof M.A.Charoo, Raouf-ul-Hasan, Prof Farida Abdullah Khan, Er Masharib Gul Mufti, Aijaz Kakroo and Dr Farooq Kaloo also attended .Participants from the MET 'Board of Trustees' included Prof Dr Irshad Ahmad Wani, Farooq Ahmad Mir, Mohammad Ashraf Mir, Mehmoodur Rashid , Mubashir Wafayi and Mohammad Rafi.
Dr Syeda Saiyidain Hamid , daughter of Late K G Saiyidain, was the Chief Guest . Speaking on the occasion , the Chief Guest Dr Syeda Hamid( former Member Planning Commission of India) recalled KG Saiyidain's long association with J&K since 1938 when he was placed at the helm of the Education Department by Late Maharaja Hari Singh.
In his stint as Director Education from 1938 to 1945, KG Saiyidain laid foundations of a modern education system in J&K that also helped make forward movement on certain indicators of human development, in due course of time post independence.
Former Advisor to Governor, Khurshid Ganie paid rich tributes to KG Saiyidain whose contribution , he said, is writ large in cores of the educational delivery system in J&K.
Sufi Ghulam Rasool, former Chief Commr, Income Tax referred to the ' broad vision' of Late Maharaja Hari Singh in responding to basic needs for primary education .
In his opening remarks, Mohammad Rafi, former Director/Mission Advisor , School Education said some of KG Saiyidain's thoughts and vision of modern education , which he rolled out way back in a Convocation Address at Amar Singh College Sgr in 1942 , have come to be endorsed in the NEP 2020 .
Rafi urged increased engagement of academics and experts , teachers and teacher educators with contextualisation of the State Curriculum Framework being steered by JKBoSE. He said the NEP , as also the National Curriculum Framework-SE , had space for such value addition which " must be availed ".
Students of both Baghaat and Sopore Campuses who had earned distinction in academics and other fields ,were felicitated on this occasion .
