Justice Tashi Rabstan appointed acting Chief Justice of J&K High Court
Srinagar, July 16: The President of India on Tuesday appointed Justice Tashi Rabstan, senior-most Judge of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh as Acting Chief Justice of the High Court.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by Article 223 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Justice Tashi Rabstan, Judge of the Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court, to perform the duties of the office of the Chief Justice of that High Court consequent upon elevation of Justice N Kotiswar Singh, Chief Justice of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court as Judge of the Supreme Court of India,” reads a notification issued by the Government of India’s Ministry of Law and Justice.
This appointment was made consequent to the elevation of Justice Singh as Judge of the Supreme Court of India.
Born on April 10, 1963, in the village Skur Buchan of Leh district of Ladakh, Justice Rabstan graduated and also did an LLB from the University of Jammu (JU).
He was enrolled as an Advocate on March 6, 1990, in the Bar Council of Jammu and Kashmir and started practising in the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh and various other High Courts on arbitrations, constitution, service, election, civil, and criminal matters.
Justice Rabstan remained Standing Counsel for Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Leh, from 1997 till 2005.
He was appointed as Additional Central Government Standing Counsel for Jammu and Kashmir High Court, Jammu Wing, in September 1998.
He also remained as panel counsel for the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) from April 2008 till December 31, 2011.
He was appointed as Additional Judge of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir on March 7, 2013.
He was appointed as permanent Judge of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir on May 16, 2014.
He was appointed as Acting Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh on December 6, 2022.
