JU to felicitate singer-composer Seema Anil Sehgal

Jammu, Sep 7: Renowned singer and composer Seema Anil Sehgal will be felicitated by her alma mater, the University of Jammu, during its foundation day celebrations tomorrow, September 8, 2025.

The Chancellor of the University, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, will be the chief guest on this occasion.

A daughter of the soil, Seema Anil Sehgal sings in the Dogri, Gojri, Hindi, Punjabi and Urdu languages with equal ease and aplomb. She has put Dogri and Gojri folksongs on international platforms through her global music concerts.

Popularly described as “Bulbul-e-Jammu-o-Kashmir”, “Malika-e-Sur” and the “Peace Singer of India” for her singular achievements and contributions, Seema was also felicitated at the prestigious Harvard University of the USA in 1999.

She is the only singer in the world whose music album has been presented as a national gift. During his historic Lahore Bus Yatra in 1999, the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee presented her album “Sarhad” as a national gift to his then Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif.

Among the plethora of honours and awards, Seema Anil Sehgal is decorated with the ‘Hakim Khan Sur’ award for national integration.

This is a national award, and other awardees include Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar, Jnanpith award winner Gulzar and the Tibetan dharma guru Dalai Lama.

A disciple of Padma Vibhushan “Gaan Sarasvati” Kishori Amonkar, Seema is the only top-graded female singer of All India Radio and Doordarshan from Jammu province for the past three decades.
