JU student dies after fall from hostel balcony
Jammu, Jun 18: In a tragic incident, a student of Law Department of Jammu University (JU) died after he reportedly fell from the balcony of Jambulochan hostel. Police identified the student as Vishal Bhardwaj, a student of fifth semester of Department of Law, JU.
“The student, hailing from Katra in Reasi district, fell from JU hostel balcony on June 17 evening at around 8.45 pm or so.
He was rushed to GMC Hospital Jammu where he was declared dead.
A case has been registered in this connection to ascertain if it’s an accidental fall or some foul play,” Police said. In a separate incident, a teenager allegedly committed suicide on Wednesday by hanging self in a rental accommodation in Rehari area of Jammu.
The deceased was identified as 18-year-old Akshay Sharma, son of Ramesh Chander, a resident of Ramnagar of Udhampur district, presently living in a rented accommodation with his parents in Rehari area in Jammu. “Since June 17, he had been alone in their rented accommodation as his parents were away in Ramnagar. As he did not pick calls, his mother asked me to check. When I came here, I found the door shut. As I peeped through the window, I saw him hanging. I immediately informed the Police which were investigating into the case to ascertain the cause behind this extreme step,” said Sunil Kumar Sharma, maternal uncle of the deceased, while responding to media queries. The body was taken to GMC Hospital, Jammu for post-mortem. “Police would investigate if it was suicide or some foul play,” he said. Police registered a case and initiated an investigation.
