Jammu, July 12: The Department of Journalism and Media Studies, University of Jammu Friday organised a valedictory function on the successful conclusion of a 20 days internship programme for the students of PSPS, Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar. The valedictory function also marked the signing of a significant letter of collaboration between the Department of Journalism and Dainik State Samachar.

On the occasion, Registrar of the University, Prof Rahul Gupta was the chief guest, who emphasized the importance of the practical training in journalism.

Aligning this initiative with the National Education Policy (NEP), Registrar, Prof Rahul Gupta said, “NEP advocates for experiential learning and industry-academia collaboration.”

He praised the collaborative efforts of the Department of Journalism and Media Studies and GCW Gandhi Nagar, underscoring how such partnerships would enhance the academic and professional growth of students in line with NEP guidelines.

“The National Education Policy envisions a holistic and multidisciplinary approach to education, which includes a strong emphasis on practical and vocational training,” Prof Gupta said, adding “The maiden collaboration with Dainik State Samachar is a testimony to the commitment of the Journalism Department in particular and Jammu University in general to promote NEP.”

Speaking on the occasion, Shamsher Singh Charak, Managing Director Dainik State Samachar expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration.

“We are delighted to partner with the University of Jammu in general and the Department of Journalism and Media Studies in particular. We aim to contribute to the professional development of the aspiring journalists,” said the Managing Director, adding the collaboration was a significant step towards nurturing talent and ensuring that students were well-prepared to meet the challenges of the modern media landscape.

Sharing her views about the internship programme and letter of collaboration, Head of the Department of Journalism and Media Studies, Prof Garima Gupta said, “Our department is dedicated to providing students with comprehensive education and training that extends beyond the classroom.”

“This internship programme and our collaboration with Dainik State Samachar exemplify our commitment to integrating academic knowledge with practical experience, as envisaged and emphasized by Vice Chancellor, Prof Umesh Rai, who has been inspiring and encouraging us to take such initiatives for the betterment of students as well as the society,” she added.

On the occasion, the intern students also shared their learning experiences and they termed this internship programme, a transformative experience. One of the students said, “The hands-on experience and the mentorship from industry and faculty were invaluable. It has prepared me well for my future career in journalism.”

It is pertinent to mention here that industry experts including Pradeep Dutta, Bureau Head Times Now Jammu, Amit Bhardwaj, senior videographer, Times Now Jammu, Prof Parmil Kumar, coordinator Wildlife Photography, Vishal Bharti, Bureau Head UNI Jammu among others interacted with the students during the internship programme.

Earlier, Prof Garima Gupta, Head of the Department of Journalism and Media Studies welcomed chief guest, faculty and students. The proceedings of the event were conducted by Kumerjit Chajgotra, faculty, Department of Journalism and Media Studies, whereas Dr Pardeep Singh Bali, faculty Department of Journalism and Media Studies extended formal vote of thanks.

Others present on the occasion included Prof Naresh Sharma and Rippy Bawa from PSPS GCW Gandhi Nagar, Dr Ravia Gupta faculty, Department of Journalism and Media Studies, team member from Dainik State Samachar, including Govind Chouhan, Praveen Sharma, Sanjay Kulshreshtha, Arun Kumar, Deepak Singh Jamwal, Darshan Kumar, Pushpinder Singh Jamwal, Bupinder Sharma, Vaishali Sharma, Sakshi Sawhney and Sulekha Gandhi.
