JTA urges restoration of Lal Chowk public transport, revision of taxes
Srinagar, Oct 30: The Joint Traders Association (JTA) has called on the Omar Abdullah-led government to resume public transport services through the Lal Chowk markets in Srinagar.
JTA President Farhan Kitab said the lack of transport has led to a drastic drop in business volume for traders in the city center.
During a meeting with the Chief Minister at SKICC, Kitab also demanded a revision of trade taxes and the labor department’s order for a mandatory one-day weekly holiday across markets.
Kitab hailed the government’s prompt response to various issues raised by the trading community. However, he emphasized that the Lal Chowk markets are facing huge losses due to the diversion of public transport to other areas, resulting in fewer potential customers visiting the area.
The JTA has urged the government to address these concerns in order to support businesses and revive economic activity in the Lal Chowk markets.
