Srinagar, Oct 19: The Joint Traders Association (JTA), representing 14 city centre markets, has extended congratulations to Omar Abdullah on his appointment as Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir.

The JTA fondly recalled Abdullah's leadership during the 2014 floods, praising his support for shopkeepers during that challenging time. The association expressed hope that under Abdullah's leadership, trade revival would be prioritized, especially given the declining footfall in the city center.

Among the pressing issues brought to the new Chief Minister's attention, the JTA called for a review of current trade tax policies, emphasizing the need to include traders in discussions to ensure a fair and inclusive system. The association also urged amendments to the outdated Shops and Establishment Act to promote ease of business and align with modern trade practices.

Furthermore, the JTA requested a relaxation of restrictions on transport services entering the city centre, aiming to boost business and revitalize commercial hubs. The association also appealed for additional roadside parking allocations to accommodate visitors and increase footfall in business areas.
