Srinagar, Jan 10: A one-day Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme on Breast Cancer Awareness today, with the theme "Early Diagnosis = Saving Lives" was organized ar JLNM Hospital today. The event saw participation from nearly 100 doctors from across Srinagar.

The CME featured expert speakers from Oncology and allied specialties including Dr. Nazir Ahmed Khan, Dr. Hakim Ajaz Ahmad , Dr Sheefa Haq, Dr. Hanifa Akhtar, and and Dr. Abdul Wahid Dar, who shared their insights on the importance of early diagnosis in breast cancer detection.

Speaking on the occasion, Medical Superintendent Dr Muhammad Tariq Jan said, "Under the able patronage of Director Health Services Dr Jehangir Bakshi, we are glad to host this event and shall be carrying forward with more of these in future. We are confident that today's event has sensitized the participants regarding the significance of Breast cancer early diagnosis”.

Organising Secretary Dr Irfan Rasool Gadda, Senior Oncologist at Rainawari Hospital, who has the distinction of starting a full fledged Oncology ward at JLNM Hospital, highlighted the hospital's achievements, stating, "We have instituted cancer chemotherapy to around 200 patients in 2025, with most of it being free of cost. We have a fully functional oncology ward and plan to expand services under the guidance of Director Health Services."

The event was part of JLNM Hospital's academic activities and aimed to raise awareness about the significance of early diagnosis in breast cancer detection. The interactive sessions saw active participation from the audience, with experts addressing queries and sharing valuable insights. A quiz was also held on the occasion about the breast cancer and its precautions, which was moderated by Dr. Saima Nazir. The event was hosted by Dr Noushiba and Ms Sarah , while Dr Altaf Khan and Ms Gousia proposed the vote of thanks.
