Srinagar, Dec 7: Jammu and Kashmir Tourist Trade Federation (JKTTF) has welcomed the government’s decision to impose a temporary cap on domestic airfares, stating that the measure will help stabilise ticket prices and boost tourist inflow to Kashmir.

In a statement, Chairman JKTTF Nazir Ahmad Mir said that the tourism sector in Kashmir has been bearing the brunt of soaring air tariffs, which often discourage travellers, especially during peak seasons. He said that if the fare cap is implemented effectively, it would prove a positive step for the tourism industry and ease travel for visitors who consider air tickets a major component of travel expenditure.

Mir said the Federation appreciates the government initiative and hopes it brings relief to passengers.

The government stepped in to curb spiralling ticket prices following a week-long operational disruption by IndiGo that resulted in massive flight cancellations and delays across the country. The Ministry of Civil Aviation announced that airlines will not be permitted to charge beyond the notified limits for different travel distances.

The JKTTF expressed hope that the fare cap will be monitored closely and enforced uniformly so that travellers receive real relief and Kashmir remains a competitive and accessible destination for holidaymakers.

JKTTF urged the government to continue the airfare tariff cap permanently and ensure it is implemented in Kashmir in letter and spirit to make travel affordable and boost tourism.
