JKSA takes up matter with Himachal authorities to expedite return of Kashmiri workers' mortal remains

Srinagar, Sep 04: The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) on Thursday has taken up matter with the Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister's office to ensure the swift return of the mortal remains of seven Kashmiri labourers who lost their lives in a tragic landslide in the Kullu-Manali region.

Nasir Khuehami, National Convenor of the Association, said that he has spoken to the office of the Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister. “The CM’s Special Secretary, Rajiv Kumar, and other officers has assured us that search and rescue operations are underway despite heavy rainfall, and one body has been recovered so far. The Chief Minister is personally monitoring the situation and is in constant touch with the District Magistrate and SSP concerned,” he said.

He added that multiple agencies, including the NDRF, ITBP, SSB, Fire Department, Home Guards, and the local police, are jointly engaged in the rescue operation. “The SP Kullu is also stationed at the site to directly supervise the ongoing work,” he noted.

He said that, CM’s office further informed that Kullu Deputy Commissioner Torul S. Raveesh, SP Karthikeyan Gokulachandran, and local MLA Sunder Singh Thakur, along with the district administration, remain actively involved on the ground, leading unrelenting search and rescue efforts.

Khuehami said that the Himachal Pradesh Chief Ministers office has assured to facilitate the transportation of the bodies to Kashmir in coordination with the local administration. “We urged them to expedite the process so that the grieving families in Kashmir can perform the last rites of their loved ones at the earliest,” he added.
