JKOACON 2025 spotlights orthopaedic excellence in Srinagar
Srinagar, Oct 18: The 8th Jammu and Kashmir Orthopaedic Association Conference (JKOACON) 2025 concluded successfully at the Government Hospital for Bone and Joint Surgery, Barzulla, Srinagar. The three-day event, held from October 16 to 18, brought together leading orthopaedic surgeons, researchers, and medical professionals from across the region and beyond.
The conference was inaugurated by Health and Medical Education Minister Sakina Itoo, who lauded the orthopaedic fraternity for their dedication to clinical excellence and innovation. Secretary Health Dr Syed Abid Rashid and Principal GMC Srinagar Dr Iffat Hassan Shah also highlighted the importance of academic collaboration, research, and skill development in advancing speciality healthcare in the Union Territory.
JKOACON 2025 featured keynote addresses, workshops, panel discussions, and presentations of cutting-edge research, focusing on trauma care, joint replacement, sports injuries, pediatric orthopaedics, and evidence-based patient care. Lifetime achievement awards were presented to Dr Manzoor A. Halwai for his contributions to orthopaedic care in the region.
Prominent national speakers, including Dr Navin Thakkar, Dr Rajeev Raman, and Dr Rakesh Rajput, shared insights with attendees, strengthening knowledge exchange and professional collaboration. The event concluded with a “Marathon for Healthy Joints,” promoting mobility, preventive care, and community awareness.
Dr Altaf Kawoosa, Organising Chairperson, said the conference underscored J&K’s growing prominence in orthopaedic education, research, and patient care.
