Srinagar, Dec 06: Chairman Jammu & Kashmir Civil Society Forum, Abdul Qayoom Wani, has expressed deep anguish over “the worst-ever power crisis and deplorable drinking water shortage” gripping Jammu & Kashmir in general, and Sub Division Tangmarg in particular.

In a strongly worded press statement, Wani said that several delegations from different villages of Tangmarg approached him and narrated their unbearable suffering due to acute water scarcity and erratic, unscheduled power cuts. He said it is unfortunate that despite people paying heavy power and water tariff, the supply remains dismal.

Wani said that the unscheduled power cuts and poor supply have severely affected small businesses, students, patients, and the common populace, especially during this harsh winter. He criticized the concerned government machinery for “not feeling the pain of the people” and for issuing statements without assessing the ground realities or taking feedback from the sufferers of administrative apathy.

Wani urged upon the Hon’ble LG and Hon’ble Chief Minister to make the concerned departments accountable and ensure immediate restoration of uninterrupted water and power supply to all affected areas, failing which the administration should be ready to face public anger.

He added that it is the moral and fundamental responsibility of the Power and Jal Shakti Departments to provide basic services to the people who pay their hard-earned money in the form of tariffs.
