JKAACL hosts ‘Ek Shaam, Sham Talib Ke Naam’

Jammu, May 25:   The Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (JKAACL) Saturday organized a special event titled “Ek Shaam, Sham Talib Ke Naam” to celebrate the poetic contributions of Sham Talib.

The event was held at K L Saigal Hall, Academy premises, Canal Road, Jammu, under the supervision of Bharat Singh, secretary, JKAACL.

Squadron Leader Anil Sehgal was the chief guest, while the event was presided over by Khalid Hussain, a renowned Punjabi writer. Dr Shahnawaz, Editor-cum-Cultural Officer, Gojri, JKAACL, welcomed the guests on behalf of the secretary, JKAACL.

Sham Talib, born in 1941, is the founder president of J&K Adbi Kunj, a multilingual literary organization established in 1975, in Jammu. The foundation of Adbi Kunj was laid by O P Sharma 'Saarthi'. A retired teacher, Sham Talib devoted his entire life to literary pursuits, significantly enriching the literary landscape of the region.

“Despite facing personal health challenges and advanced age, Talib remains passionately engaged in his writing. His dedication is supported by his family, including two sons and a daughter, who assist him in his literary endeavours. His unwavering commitment to literature, even under challenging personal circumstances, highlights his remarkable dedication and resilience in promoting and nurturing literary culture,” observed speakers on the occasion.

During the event, Amin Banihali, the former president of Anjuman Farogh-e-Urdu, presented a memento to Sham Talib.

Autar Krishan 'Naaz' read a paper written by Sushil Begana. Later Sham Talib shared his life experiences with the audience, captivating them with his journey and literary achievements.

In his address as chief guest, Squadron Leader Anil Sehgal praised Talib's contributions to literature and emphasized the importance of preserving and promoting literary heritage.

Khalid Hussain, in his presidential address, expressed his admiration for Talib's dedication and the significant impact of his work on the literary community.

The event also featured a musical tribute by Dharmesh Nargotra, who sang the ghazals of Talib, well supported by his talented team of musicians including Rahul Bhardwaj on Tabla; Chandan Jasotra on Synth and Arav Nargotra on Guitar.

The soulful renditions added a melodious touch to the evening, celebrating the poetic essence of Talib's work.
