Srinagar, June 9: The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) here on Sunday informed that the mortal remains of a J&K youth who died in Saudi Arabia have been repatriated back home with the intervention of the Union External Affairs Minister’s office.

In a statement, the National Convenor of the Association Nasir Khuehami expressed gratitude to External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar for facilitating the return of the mortal remains of youth Mohd Kabir from Saudi Arabia.

He said that a youth from the Khawas area of Rajouri district tragically passed away in Saudi Arabia. Kabir had been working there as a driver for the past two years and unfortunately met with a fatal accident while on duty. He thanked the External Affairs Minister's Office for taking up the matter and swiftly addressing it with the Indian Embassy in Saudi Arabia, providing crucial assistance in repatriating Kabir’s body to his family in Khawas, Rajouri, for the last rites.

He emphasised that the association took up the matter of repatriation of the mortal remains with the External Affairs Minister's office and provided them with details about the deceased. The Ministry coordinated with the Indian Embassy in Saudi Arabia to expedite the repatriation process. They intervened promptly and resolved the matter as quickly as possible.

In getting the youth of Rajouri’s mortal remains back home from Saudi Arabia for the last rites at his ancestral village, the family had requested the Association to seek the Ministry’s help in bringing Kabir’s body back home. After completing all the necessary local formalities, including police clearance, final exit, embalming, and cargo booking, the body was repatriated to India.

“We had requested that authorities facilitate the return of the deceased’s body to his ancestral village, and it was finally made possible. He was laid to rest at his ancestral village in Rajouri, he said.

The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association extended its deepest condolences to the grieving family and prayed for peace for the departed soul. “This is indeed a heart-wrenching tragedy. Our heartfelt sympathies are with the family of the late Mohd Kabir. The repatriation has provided some solace to the grieving family and allowed them to perform the last rites of their loved one with dignity,” Khuehami added.
