J&K Wushu team bags 2nd place in men’s sanda at 38th national games
Srinagar, Feb 1: Jammu and Kashmir's Wushu team on Saturday delivered an impressive performance at the ongoing 38th National Games in Uttarakhand, finishing second in the Men’s Sanda event, just behind the Services team.
As per a release issued, with a total of 2 gold, 1 silver, and 4 bronze medals, the J&K team has made the J&K proud. Gold medals were clinched by Surya Bhanu Partap Singh and Mohd Kamraan, while Ayeera Chisti secured a silver.
Earlier, Arjun Sharma, Rohan, Ishant Singh, and Saleem Kumar confirmed bronze medals in the Games.
Surya Bhanu outclassed Manipur in the finals in 60 kg, Mohd Kamraan defeated Services Sports Control Board in plus 90 kg, and Ayeera Chisti lost final bouts with MP.
The team was supported by coaches Ajaz Hassan and Lalit Singh, with accolades pouring in from J&K Sports Council officials and Dronacharya Awardee Kuldeep Handoo, who emphasized the promising future of Wushu in the region, particularly with an eye on the 20th Asian Games in 2026.
Secretary, Sports Council, Ms. Nuzhat Gul, congratulated the medalists, especially the gold medalists.
President Vijay Saraf, Ranjeet Kalra (VP), and Ms. Bhavneet (General Secretary) congratulated the medalists for making the whole J&K UT proud.
Kuldeep Handoo (Dronacharya Awardee) thanked J&K Sports Council for the support, assuring that J&K Wushu will achieve new heights in the forthcoming international and national events.
