Srinagar, Jan 31: Jammu and Kashmir tightened their grip on their Ranji Trophy clash against Baroda with a commanding all-round performance on Day 2. A spin masterclass, led by Sahil Lotra, Abid Mushtaq, and Shubham Khajuria, saw Baroda bowled out for 166, handing J&K a crucial 80-run first-innings lead.

Khajuria then shone with the bat, remaining unbeaten on 67* as J&K reached 125/1 at stumps, extending their lead to a formidable 205 runs. With the team in a dominant position, J&K will look to build on their advantage and push for a strong finish on Day 3.

Resuming from 29/2, Baroda added just 11 runs before Sahil Lotra struck twice in an over, dismissing Atit Sheth on 5 and Vishnu Solanki for a duck, reducing Baroda to 40/4. A promising 42-run stand between Krunal Pandya and Shivalik Sharma was broken by Shubham Khajuria, who got rid of Krunal Pandya on (18).

Despite a fighting half-century from Shivalik Sharma, Baroda crumbled under pressure. Abid Mushtaq delivered a game-changing over, trapping Mitesh Patel lbw and bowling Ninad Rathva on a duck. Just before lunch, he struck again, dismissing Mahesh Pithiya, leaving Baroda at 127/8. Shivalik Sharma scored 64 and was dismissed by Shubham Khajuria.

Baroda were eventually bowled out for 166, giving J&K a valuable 80-run lead. Sahil Lotra claimed 4 wickets for 26 runs, while Abid Mushtaq took 3 for 56. Shubham Khajuria also took 3/47. Surprisingly, all 10 Baroda wickets fell to spin.

J&K Openers Extend Lead

In their second innings, J&K's openers Shubham Khajuria and Yawer provided a solid foundation, putting on a 97-run partnership for the first wicket.

However, their partnership was just three runs short of a century stand when Mahesh Pithiya trapped Yawar LBW for 36.

Shubham Khjuriya played a brilliant innings, scoring 67* runs off 115 balls, including 9 fours. With him, Vivrant Sharma remains unbeaten on 17. At the end of the day, J&K were 125/1, enjoying a commanding lead of 205 runs.

The J&K team will look to extend their lead further and take complete control of the match on the third day.
