Srinagar, Feb 12: The Department of Horticulture Planning and Marketing, J&K, organised a one-day buyer–seller meet in New Delhi to strengthen market linkages for horticulture and allied produce from the Union Territory.

The event, held at Hotel Samrat on February 12, saw participation from 80 progressive farmers, growers and traders representing all 20 districts of Jammu and Kashmir. The department facilitated their interaction with leading traders and buyers from major markets, including Azadpur Mandi, Khari Baoli and Naya Bazar, as well as representatives from neighbouring states such as Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Hyderabad dealing in fruits, vegetables, dry fruits, pulses and processed food products.

Officials said the interactions led to the establishment of new trade linkages and business opportunities for horticulture stakeholders from the UT.

Director Horticulture Planning and Marketing, J&K, Ghulam Jeelani Zargar welcomed the participants and delivered a presentation highlighting Jammu and Kashmir’s diverse agricultural and horticultural produce, quality advantages and export potential.

Senior officials and representatives from various organisations also addressed the gathering, including General Manager APEDA Vinita Sudhanshu, Regional Manager APEDA Sehreen, Deputy Agricultural Marketing Advisor (DMI) B.K. Prushty, Deputy Director NHB and Business Head FICCI, along with CA store operators. The speakers deliberated on market expansion, export promotion and value-chain strengthening initiatives.

Participating farmers, traders and representatives from government and civil organisations appreciated the department’s initiative and called for organising more such buyer–seller meets to enhance market access and income opportunities for farmers and entrepreneurs of J&K.
