J&K RTI Movement concerned over illegal riverbed mining
Srinagar, Nov 12: A delegation of Jammu and Kashmir RTI Movement -RTIM led by Dr Raja Muzaffar Bhat met with Chief Engineer Irrigation and Flood Control Department Kashmir, B J Sharma, on Tuesday and apprised him about the illegal riverbed mining taking place in different streams and nallahs of Kashmir valley.
The delegation in addition to Dr Raja Muzaffar consisted of senior activists of the RTI Movement namely Shabir Ahmad Bhat and Raashid Ashraf. The delegation gave a written representation to the Chief Engineer for making sure illegal riverbed mining in Sukhnag Nallah in Beerwah and other streams of Kashmir was curbed.
Dr Raja Muzaffar during the meeting gave a detailed presentation to the Chief Engineer on illegal riverbed mining taking place in Pulwama and Budgam and how it was impacting agriculture, wetland ecosystems, springs and groundwater.
