J&K ‘Raj Bhavan’ renamed as ‘Lok Bhavan’

Srinagar, Dec 2: The Jammu and Kashmir administration has formally renamed ‘Raj Bhavan’ as ‘Lok Bhavan’, following a directive issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).

According to an official notification issued by the Lieutenant Governor’s Secretariat, the change has been made in pursuance of a communication from the MHA vide Memo No 7/10/2025 (Part)-M&G dated November 25, 2025.

The notification, signed by Principal Secretary to the Lieutenant Governor, Mandeep Kumar Bhandari, said that the existing nomenclature of ‘Raj Bhavan, Jammu and Kashmir’ stands modified to ‘Lok Bhavan, Jammu and Kashmir.’

The order further said that the institution should henceforth be referred to only as Lok Bhavan, and all future correspondence, documentation, and official references must now reflect the revised name.

The notification has come into force with immediate effect.

The communication has been circulated to senior constitutional authorities across the country, including the offices of the President, Vice President, Prime Minister, Union Home Minister, and Chief Ministers and Governors of various states and Union Territories.

The Administrative Department and relevant institutions within J&K have also been directed to update the name in official records and government websites.
