J&K Psychiatric Society hosts its 1st National Conference in Srinagar
Srinagar, Nov 13: The J&K Psychiatric Society, in collaboration with the Indian Psychiatric Society, today inaugurated its first-ever National Conference at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC), Srinagar. Held under the theme “Echoes of the Past, Hopes for the Future,” the two-day event has drawn mental health professionals, researchers and stakeholders from across the country for wide-ranging discussions on advancements in psychiatric care and mental health awareness.
Organising Secretary Prof Yasir Hassan Rather told Greater Kashmir that more than 348 scholars have registered for the conference, including 35 participants from outside Jammu and Kashmir. “Psychiatrists and mental health experts of national repute, including the President and General Secretary of the Indian Psychiatric Society, will grace the event,” he said.
Day one opened with the inaugural session, followed by a series of symposia and expert-led discussions.
Key sessions included “Understanding and Managing Children with ADHD,” “Screening and Support for Depression,” and “Precision Psychiatry in Epilepsy Disorders.” A segment titled “Human Tragedy of Kashmir through Cinematic Lens” also resonated strongly with attendees.
The second and concluding day on Friday will feature sessions on “Decoding Psychopathology “Mastering Research Writing,” “Emerging Trends in Psychiatric Care,” and more. Hands-on learning workshops—covering ADHD management, dementia care, precision psychiatry in opioid use disorders and research writing—are also among the major highlights.
The conference includes keynote addresses and panel discussions aimed at fostering collaboration, building clinical insight and strengthening mental health care delivery in the region.
