J&K Police seize record 33 kg heroin haul in Jammu
Jammu, Aug 9: J&K Police achieved a major success in its war against drugs on Friday by nabbing a drug peddler and recovering a huge consignment of heroin-like substance from his possession.
Addressing a news conference, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Jammu Zone, Anand Jain termed it a major achievement for the Police and patted the back of the Police team that succeeded in recovery of this huge consignment.
Police said that on Friday, Police Station Bus Stand, Jammu, received reliable information that a resident of Punjab was coming from Akhnoor towards Bus Stand with a huge consignment of heroin-like substance.
“A special checkpoint was laid by the team of Police Station Bus Stand and the suspect was apprehended tactfully with a bag carrying 26 packets of heroin-like substance,” Police said.
It said that the recovered heroin-like substance weighed around 33 kg.
Police said that a case under FIR No 41/2024 under Sections 8, 21, and 22 of the NDPS Act had been registered at Police Station Bus Stand and an investigation had been started.
“Prima facie it appears that the accused obtained the consignment from border areas and was taking it to Punjab,” Police said. “Further investigation is underway to unearth the forward and backward linkages and the complete picture.”
