Srinagar, Nov 26: Police districts across Kashmir observed Constitution Day (Samvidhan Diwas) with solemn ceremonies, pledge-taking events and awareness programmes, reaffirming their commitment to uphold the values enshrined in the Constitution of India, which marks 75 years of its adoption.

At the District Police Office Srinagar, IGP Kashmir VK Birdi led officers and officials in reading the Preamble to the Constitution. DIG CKR Rajiv Pandey, SSP Srinagar, Dr GV Sundeep Chakravarthy and other senior officers were present at the event.

Officials said the collective reading of the Preamble served as a reminder of the guiding principles of justice, liberty, equality and fraternity. The officers reiterated that these values form the foundation of policing and public service, and renewed their pledge to safeguard citizens’ rights and uphold national integrity.

In Shopian, Constitution Day was observed across all police establishments. At District Police Lines Shopian, Addl. SP Rameez Rashid Bhat administered the Preamble oath to officers and officials. Similar ceremonies were held at all Police Stations and Posts, where officers stressed transparent, impartial policing and the need to protect constitutional rights.

Baramulla Police marked the day with events at the District Police Headquarters and District Police Lines. Senior officers administered the constitutional pledge, calling upon personnel to uphold justice, equality and integrity in all policing duties. Oath-taking programmes were held simultaneously across police units in the district.

In Budgam, SSP Budgam Nikhil Borkar led the Preamble reading at District Police Lines and administered the pledge to uphold constitutional duties. He underscored the responsibility of police personnel to uphold the Constitution “in letter and spirit.” Preamble readings were conducted at all police stations and units across the district.

Awantipora Police also held Preamble oath ceremonies across its establishments. The observance included clean-up drives at Police Stations and Posts, promoting cleanliness, responsibility and community service in line with the Constitution’s Fundamental Duties. Officers highlighted the role of the police in safeguarding national integrity and constitutional values.

Kupwara Police observed Constitution Day across all units with active participation. At DPO Kupwara, the DySP Headquarters administered the Constitutional Pledge, while territorial officers held ceremonies in their respective jurisdictions. A major Preamble reading was organised at Town Hall Kupwara, attended by the Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, SSP Kupwara Al Tahir Gillani and civil administration officers. The event reaffirmed Kupwara Police’s commitment to serve with integrity and uphold the Constitution.

Authorities across districts said the observance of Constitution Day strengthens democratic values and reinforces the police’s role in protecting the rights and dignity of citizens.
