J&K Police best force to fight terrorism: DGP
Rajouri, Nov 19: Director General of Police R R Swain Sunday stated that Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) was the best force to fight terrorism as no one knew the topography and demography as they (JKP personnel) did.
“No one can be better than J&K Police in a fight against terrorism here as no one knows the topography and demography as we do. Jurisdictional officers and jawans must establish goodwill bonds with the people and that is possible only when we reach to the people to listen to their problems or issues,” he said.
He was addressing the Darbar of officers and jawans at District Police Line Rajouri.
The DGP was on a day-long visit to the border district Rajouri where he interacted with the jurisdictional DySPs and SHOs of district Rajouri and Poonch. He also chaired meetings of officers from army, CRPF, BSF and sister agencies besides range and district police officers.
During the meeting with the officers of different forces besides sister agencies, all officers agreed upon more actions against terrorism and their supporters.
They agreed upon clean and green operations while taking due care about the problems being faced by the citizens of the border districts.
A police spokesperson said that revisiting and rejuvenating Border Police Posts with the support and synergy of other forces was also discussed. Measures for strengthening the Intelligence and Border Security Grids were also discussed in the meeting.
During interaction with jurisdictional DySsP & SHOs of twin border districts Rajouri and Poonch, DGP listened to views of all officers. Detailed discussions were held to improve the people-friendly policing and reaching to them in times of their need.

Officers were directed by the Director General of Police to ensure zero tolerance on terror, narcotics, bovine smuggling and corruption.
Addressing the Darbar of police personnel, the DGP stressed upon personnel to work with honesty and full dedication, adding, “There is no need to be afraid of anyone for doing lawful duty.”
Speaking about the relation between senior and junior officers of the force, he said besides discipline there should be fair-play between officers and jawans of the
force, especially between gazetted officers and their subordinates. “We should look and be equal. Looking after the welfare of jawans should be a priority always in the mind of senior officers while jawans must do their duty honestly for earning more respect of our organisation and for welfare of the people of the community,” DGP said.
Referring to the recent grievance redressal programme at PHQ in Srinagar, the DGP said, “Many grievances were of families of our own jawans which itself defines that grievance of jawans need to be redressed at the right place in the first instance.”
Directing officers to look into the genuine grievances of their jawans, DGP cautioned, “A situation should not arise that a jawan sends his or her family members for redressal of his or her grievances.” Advising jawans not to be self-centred, DGP said, “I am sure that there is no dearth of spirit among the jawans of our force. The officers should not hesitate in sanctioning leave for subordinates for important occasions. They must know the honest and dedicated subordinates.”
He exhorted upon the officers and jawans to develop mechanisms wherein the bond with the people were strengthened which would help in getting more and more actionable information about the anti-national elements and would help in destroying the terror ecosystem. “Make efforts to be in good contact with maximum people in your area of responsibilities and we have to ensure their trust on us because we are from them, we are one of them,” he said.
