J&K People’s Forum lauds environmental activists
Srinagar, Aug 25: The J&K People’s Forum, a prominent civil society group, has strongly urged Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to fulfill the promises made to the public. “Citizens are craving basic necessities of life such as safe drinking water, quality education, proper health care facilities, and road connectivity. The skyrocketing prices of vegetables and fruits are beyond the reach of the common man. Meanwhile, unemployment is touching new heights as highly qualified youth have been left to the mercy of fate,” Shuja said.
“Forests are vanishing and water bodies are shrinking due to official apathy. The paradise is losing its sheen with each passing day,” the statement added. Citing recent natural disasters in “Kishtwar and Kathua”, the Forum said these should serve as an eye-opener for those “claiming victory against nature.”
The J&K People’s Forum said it appreciates efforts of environmentalist Dr. Raja Muzaffar Bhat, Faiz Bakshi (EPG), Manzoor Wangnoo (NLLCO), and their teams to continue their work to restore the valley’s lost glory. The Forum lauded Arif Shafi Wani, Executive Editor of Daily Greater Kashmir, for his consistent role in raising awareness through print media about fragile eco-zones and the looming environmental threats in J&K.
