J&K nurse among 15 receive Florence Nightingale award

Srinagar, Sep 11: Fifteen Nurses including a nurse from Jammu and Kashmir Nurse Dr Tabasum Irshad Handoo were awarded National Florence Nightingale Award for the year 2024.

President Droupadi Murmu presented the National Florence Nightingale Awards for the year 2024 to the Nursing professionals today at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi.

Those who won the award included Sheela Mondal from Andaman & Nicobar, Iken Lollen from Arunachal Pradesh, Vidjeyacoumary V from Puducherry, Januka Pandeyl from Sikkim, Anindita Pramanik from West Benga, Brahmacharimayum Amusana Devi from Manipur, Nurse Maj Gen Ignatius Delos Flora from Delhi, Nurse Prem Rose Surifrom from Delhi, Nurse Dr. Tabasum Irshad Handoo from Jammu & Kashmir, Nurse Dr Nagarajaiah from Karnataka, Nurse Shamshad Beegum Attalada from Lakshadweep, Nurse Asha Wamanrao Bawane from Maharashtra, Nurse H Mankimi from Mizoram, Nurse Sanjukta Sethi from Odisha and Nurse Radhey Lal Sharma from Rajasthan.

The National Florence Nightingale Award is among India’s highest honours for nurses and nursing professionals. Established in 1973 by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, this prestigious award is named after Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing, in recognition of her service and dedication to nursing and healthcare.

This award aims to recognise and appreciate outstanding contributions made by nursing professionals toward patient care, community healthcare, and the nursing profession. It acknowledges nurses who have displayed exceptional courage, dedication, compassion, and a commitment to their patients, often working under challenging conditions.
