J&K Law Secretary Achal Sethi bereaved
Jammu, Dec 8: Kanta Sethi, the mother of J&K Secretary Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Achal Sethi and the wife of the late Comrade Krishan Dev Sethi – member J&K Constituent Assembly, passed away at her residence in Jammu, after a brief illness on Monday.
She was 82.
As per the family sources, fulfilling her last wish, her eyes were donated to give a parting gift of vision, on her behalf, to the needy.
Kanta Sethi, taking cue from her late husband, K D Sethi, too had pledged to donate her eyes.
K D Sethi in 2021, after his death, had earned the title of “J&K’s first eye donor.”
She (Kanta Sethi) is survived by her son (Achal Sethi) and a daughter Dr Poonam Sethi, Director, Family Welfare and grand-children.
Her last rites, which were performed this (Monday) evening at 4.30 pm at Jogi Gate Cremation Ground, Jammu, were attended by the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Chief Justice of High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, Ministers, Chief Secretary, Judges of High Court and subordinate courts, Administrative Secretaries, advocates, politicians, prominent citizens representing different sections of society besides hundreds of mourners.
The Chief Minister, while attending her cremation, expressed his deep condolences to Achal Sethi and other members of the bereaved family and prayed for peace to the departed soul.
Her death has been widely mourned in administrative, social and political circles across J&K.
Apni Party president Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari has extended his condolences on the passing of Kanta Sethi.
In his condolence message, Altaf Bukhari said, “I am deeply sorry to hear about the passing of Kanta Sethi, wife of late Comrade Krishan Dev Sethi—a veteran politician, thinker, and a figure widely respected across J&K and beyond. May her noble soul rest in eternal peace.”
He further said, “In this hour of grief, I extend my deepest condolences to the entire family, especially their son Achal Sethi and daughter Dr Poonam Sethi. May the Almighty grant them strength and courage to face this immense and irreparable loss.”
M Y Tarigami, CPI(M) leader and MLA, too has expressed his profound grief over the passing of Kanta Devi Sethi.
Conveying his heartfelt condolences, Tarigami visited the residence of late K D Sethi, a veteran politician and noted analyst, to offer solidarity and sympathy to the bereaved family.
