J&K has a deep connection with lotus: PM Modi

Srinagar, Mar 7:  Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a symbolic connection between the lotus, the symbol of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and the state of Jammu and Kashmir.

Addressing a mega rally here ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, the PM said that J&K has the potential to become a global success story with the lotus serving as a common motif.

He speculated whether the association of the lotus with J&K was a mere coincidence or a sign of a deeper connection.

“The success story of J&K will be the centre of attraction for the world. We see lotus everywhere in the lakes here. The logo of the J&K Cricket Association formed 50 years ago, also has a lotus. Is it a coincidence or a sign of nature that the BJP’s symbol is also a lotus and J&K has a deep connection with the lotus,” PM Modi said.

Most probably, Modi’s remarks come in the context of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, where the BJP hopes to consolidate its position in J&K. The party has made significant inroads in the region in recent years, winning seats in the state assembly and local bodies.

The lotus has been the symbol of the BJP since the party’s inception, representing purity and beauty emerging from murky waters.

The party has often used the lotus as a metaphor for its vision of transforming society and politics.

J&K has been a focal point of the BJP's political strategy, especially since the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019, which stripped the erstwhile state of its special status.

The party has aimed to integrate J&K more closely with the rest of the country and bring about development and prosperity in the union territory.

The PM’s symbolic connection between the lotus and J&K reflects the BJP's aspirations for the union territory.

As the election season heats up, it remains to be seen whether the lotus will indeed bloom in J&K, both symbolically and politically.
