J&K govt to introduce mandatory service bond for doctors pursuing masters

Srinagar, Mar 17: Doctors pursuing MD/MS from J&K Medical Colleges may soon need to sign a mandatory service bond, on the same pattern as is applicable in most medical colleges across India. 

This was stated today by Minister for Health and Medical Education, Sakeena Masood in reply to a question.

The Minister said that doctors who secure postgraduate courses from J&K medical colleges, are funded by the J & K exchequer. 

“They earn degrees on the money of our people,” she said. 

She stressed that these doctors must also give something in return to the people of J&K. 

“We have examined the rules and soon they will need to serve in J&K for two years, like it is mandatory in other medical colleges of India,” she said. 

The minister said that the service bond will be for a period of 2-3 years. “Rules must be relaxed only where it benefits patient care and healthcare delivery,” she said.
