JK Govt plans to grant Tribal University status to BGSBU: Javed Rana
Rajouri, Oct 6: J&K Minister for Jal Shakti and Tribal Affairs Javed Ahmed Rana on Monday said that the government intended to accord Tribal University status to Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU), Rajouri.
Speaking to media persons during his visit to Rajouri, Rana described BGSBU as an elite educational institute and the only university in the entire Pir Panjal region, emphasizing that its proper functioning held great significance for the area.
He acknowledged that several issues were currently affecting the university’s operations but assured that the Omar Abdullah-led government was committed to take measures for its overall improvement and development.
“The Jammu and Kashmir government aims to develop the university in all aspects. A comprehensive model for this purpose is under consideration and the government is planning to grant Tribal University status to BGSBU Rajouri,” Rana said.
The minister further revealed that MLA Rajouri, Iftkhar Ahmed, had already moved a proposal seeking declaration of BGSBU as a Tribal University, which, he added, was likely to be discussed in the upcoming assembly session.
