J&K Govt eyes Sonamarg for expanded winter tourism circuit
Srinagar, Oct 28: The Jammu and Kashmir Government on Tuesday said that it has initiated a series of measures to promote winter sports and festivals at Sonamarg, drawing inspiration from the successful tourism model of Gulmarg.
The minister-in-charge department of tourism informed the Legislative Assembly the development in a reply to a question tabled by Mian Mehar Ali.
The minister incharge stated that the government was actively working to diversify and expand Kashmir’s winter tourism circuit by introducing Sonamarg as an additional winter destination.
The minister incharge said, “Tourism Department has undertaken a series of initiatives to promote winter sports and festivals at Sonamarg, drawing inspiration from the successful tourism model of Gulmarg, with the objective of diversifying and extending Kashmir,s winter tourism circuit.”
Notably, Gulmarg in Kashmir’s Baramulla district is considered to be as one of the world’s famous ski destination which attracts skiers, visitors not just from the local region, but also from the other regions of the world.
