J&K government approves 3-tier faculty structure for dental colleges

Srinagar, Jan 30: In order to enhance academic standards and career progression for faculty, J&K Government today sanctioned the implementation of a three-tier faculty structure at the Indira Gandhi Government Dental College (IGGDC), Jammu, and the Government Dental College (GDC), Srinagar.

The decision announced under Government Order No. 85-JK (HME) of 2025 dated January 30, 2025, follows the Council of Ministers’ approval (Decision No. 003/01/2025) earlier this month.

Under the new structure, 24 posts of Lecturers, 11 in IGGDC Jammu and 13 in GDC Srinagar have been upgraded to Assistant Professor (Level-11). Additionally, 9 new posts of Associate Professor (Level-12) have been created, 5 in Jammu and 4 in Srinagar by corresponding reduction in Lecturer posts.

This restructuring aims to align the colleges with national educational norms and improve institutional hierarchies to attract and retain qualified faculty. The order has been issued by Dr Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, Secretary to the Government Health and Medical Education.

At IGGDC Jammu those who have been designated as Assistant Professors are Dr Abhima Kumar, Dr Sanjay Kumar Bhagat, Dr Amrit Pal Singh, Dr Rudra Kaul, Dr Ravinder Kumar Bhagat, Dr Sachin Chadgal, Dr Shivani Jandial and Dr Pradakshana Vijay.

At GDC Srinagar, those redesignated to Assistant Professor are Dr Shafia, Dr Abdul Wahid Zarger, Dr Ashiq Ali, Dr Altaf Hussain Malik, Dr Syed Saima Amin, Dr Muzafar Ahmad Bhat, Dr Nameeta Kaur and Dr Imtiyaz Ahmad Magray.
