J&K gets 316 road projects of over Rs 4224 Cr under PMGSY-IV
Jammu, Jun 10: The Centre has sanctioned 316 road projects, at an estimated cost of over Rs 4224 crore, under Batch-I of Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana-IV (PMGSY-IV) for Jammu and Kashmir for providing connectivity to 390 eligible habitations.
The implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana - IV (PMGSY-IV) during FY 2024-25 to 2028-29 was approved by the union cabinet in September 2024.
Notably, J&K is the first among all States and Union Territories (UTs) to get this project, with the approved 1781 km road length, sanctioned under PMGSY-IV.
The news was first shared by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on ëXí with a note of gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Union Minister for Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
The Lieutenant Governor noted that the biggest ever package sanctioned for J&K under PMGSYî will provide connectivity to ì390 eligible habitations with a population of more than 250 souls.î
He appreciated that the approved 1781 km road length would provide a major boost to rural road connectivity and usher in a new era of prosperity in far-flung areas.

ìJ&K is first among all states and UTs which got sanction under PMGSY-IV. It is also the biggest-ever package sanctioned for J&K under PMGSY. As per the scheme, unconnected habitations will be provided all-weather road connectivity.
The all-weather roads will play the role of catalysts for the required socio-economic development and transformation of the remote rural areas. While connecting habitations, the nearby government educational, health, market, and growth centres will be connected, as far as feasible, with the all-weather road for the benefit of the local people.
Officials point out that the PMGSY -IV will incorporate international benchmarks and best practices under road constructions such as ìcold mix technology and waste plastic; panelled cement concrete; cell filled concrete; full depth reclamation; use of construction waste and other wastes such as Fly Ash, Steel Slag, etc.î
PMGSY -IV road alignment planning will be undertaken through the PM Gati Shakti portal. The planning tool on the PM Gati Shakti portal will also assist in DPR preparation.
The total outlay of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana- IV (PMGSY-IV) during FY 2024-25 to 2028-29 will be Rs 70,125 crore across the country.
Out of the total outlay, central share comprises Rs 49,087.50 crore and the state share Rs. 21,037.50 crore.
The financial assistance is to be provided for the construction of a 62,500 km road for providing new connectivity to eligible 25,000 unconnected habitations and the construction and upgradation of bridges on the new connectivity roads.
Under this scheme, 25,000 unconnected habitations of population size 500 plus in plains and 250 plus in North East and Hill state and UTs (including J&K); special category areas (Tribal Schedule V, Aspirational Districts/Blocks, Desert areas) and 100 plus in Left-Wing Extremism (LWE) affected districts, as per Census 2011 will be covered across the country.
Under this scheme, 62,500 km of all-weather roads will be provided to unconnected habitations. Construction of required bridges along the alignment of the all-weather road will also be provided.
