Srinagar, Oct 16: Jammu and Kashmir is emerging as a sports hub in India considering the international and national events being hosted by the Union Territory on a regular basis.

This was stated by the Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Bandi Sanjay Kumar at the valedictory of the 10th All India Police Games Judo Cluster hosted by J&K Police under the aegis of All India Sports Control Board (AIPSCB) at Srinagar today.

“The hosting of mega events of international and national repute in the recent past has made J&K as a emerging hub of sports in India. The Centre is committed to prioritise development of modern infrastructure for sports in the UT,” said the MoS Home.

Addressing the gathering of 38 contingents, representing police and para military forces of the country, the Minister said, “Sports help improve coordination among different police forces of the country thus promote camaraderie,” adding he said, “present Government at the Centre working to make sports part of life for every citizen so as to build a healthy society.”

Chairman of the organising committee, Director General Police, J&K, Nalin Prabhat complimented the medal winners and encouraged others to work hard for the next time.

The DGP J&K handed over the AIPSCB Flag to the chief guest for further custody of Special Director IB and representative of (AIPSCB), Anurag Kumar. He complimented the J&K Police for the achievements and efforts to grow further in sports amidst appreciation for the Ministry of Home Affairs for the special grant of Rs nine crore for Civic Action Programme this year.

Earlier, in his welcome address, organising secretary, ADGP Armed J&K, Anand Jain presented a detailed report of the Judo Cluster amidst appreciation for the organising team, technical officials and various committees involved in the conduct.

The concluding day of the Judo Cluster, J&K Police did well in Wushu, especially in men section, wherein the Sanda team finished fourth with 13 points, including one gold and two silver. The SSB bagged the title trophy with 31 medals while BSF (27) finished second and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (21).

Similarly, in women Sanda event, ITBP bagged the trophy with 29 points and Uttar Pradesh Police were second with 13 points. CRPF (10) and SSB (09) remained third and fourth respectively.

In Taolu, other event of Wushu, SSB bagged both men and women trophies with 37 and 49 points respectively. The second place in Male bagged of CRPF (22) and ITBP finished third with 14 points. In women section, ITBP (29) remained second and CRPF (20) was third.

Meanwhile, the SSB emerges as the most successful contingent with eight title trophies out of five events in men and women sections. The J&K Police bagged the Pencak Silat men’s championship trophy.
