J&K cabinet meeting today

Jammu, Sep 22: The Jammu and Kashmir cabinet, headed by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, would meet in Srinagar on Tuesday.

The cabinet is likely to finalise the date for convening the autumn session of the J&K Legislature, besides deliberating on other agenda items.

“The cabinet meeting is scheduled for Tuesday at 10 am. We will meet and decide on the date for the session to be recommended to the Lieutenant Governor. So far, no date has been fixed. This will not be the only issue. As usual, there will be other agenda items as well. However, I have yet to check the agenda,” a source said about the agenda likely to be taken up in the meeting.

Besides the constitutional requirements of convening a session within six months of the previous session, the opposition is also demanding the immediate convening of a special session to discuss some pressing issues, mainly devastation caused by recent rain-induced floods, landslides, leading to critical issues, including those pertaining to connectivity and AAP MLA Mehraj Malik’s detention under the Public Safety Act (PSA).
