J&K Budget session from March 3

Jammu, Jan 28: Business Advisory Committee (BAC) of J&K Legislature is likely to meet in the first week of February to finalise the business calendar for the ensuing budget session, scheduled to begin from March 3.

Earlier the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, while approving the proposal of J&K Council of Ministers led by the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, fixed March 3 as the date for commencement of the budget session with his Address.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who is also holding the charge of the Finance Minister at present, will present the first budget of J&K as Union Territory, if no cabinet expansion is made (and charge is not handed over to someone else).

“It is very likely that Speaker, J&K Legislative Assembly Abdul Rahim Rather will call a Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting next week to finalise the business calendar i.e., dates for presentation of budget, discussions on grants and other business,” sources stated.

They pointed out that most of J&K legislators were calling for a short budget session in the wake of the month of Ramadhan.

“However, it is for the Business Advisory Committee, which will have members from the opposition and other parties, to decide about the duration of the session, keeping in view all aspects,” they said.

Though there was no official word on this account yet, reports had suggested that the Council of Ministers had proposed a three-week long budget session.
