J&K BJP celebrates in Srinagar

Srinagar, Aug 05: J&K BJP workers gathered at the Jawahar Nagar party office in Srinagar on Monday to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370.

Holding the national tricolour and party flags, the assembled crowd shouted slogans in favour of the nation and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “Jammu and Kashmir Azad Howa Panch August ko” (Jammu and Kashmir was liberated on August 5), chanted the BJP workers, including a significant number of women. The slogans highlighted the end of family rule in Kashmir and the cessation of stone-pelting and gun culture since the abrogation.

Addressing the media, Altaf Thakur, spokesperson for the BJP Kashmir unit, expressed that the abrogation of Article 370 marked the full integration of Jammu and Kashmir with the Union of India. “This day is a cause for celebration for the people,” he said.

On August 5, 2019, the central government abrogated Article 370, revoking the special status of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir and bifurcating it into two Union Territories: Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh. The celebration at the BJP office, J-53 Jawahar Nagar, was vibrant and spirited, marked by the distribution of sweets and reflections on the positive impact of the historic decision. BJP leaders from across the region attended, acknowledging the transformative changes that have unfolded in the Kashmir Valley since the abrogation.

Leaders expressed their satisfaction and pride in witnessing a profound shift towards peace and stability in the region. A key highlight of the celebration was the observation that, following the abrogation of Article 370, there has been a notable absence of stone-pelting incidents, a clear indication of an improved security environment.

"The abrogation has fostered an environment where individuals are now able to focus on their work and personal pursuits without the constant disruptions of unrest," BJP leaders said. "The newfound peace has been instrumental in allowing the people of Kashmir to engage more fully in their economic and social activities, contributing to overall progress and prosperity in the valley," they added.

"We celebrate this occasion with immense joy and optimism," they said . "The abrogation of Article 370 has ushered in an era of peace and opportunity for the people of Kashmir. The absence of violence and the improved security situation are testaments to the effectiveness of this historic decision. Our focus remains on supporting the continued development and well-being of the region," the leaders said.
