Srinagar, Jan 4: Athletes from Jammu and Kashmir have etched their names in the annals of sports history with a phenomenal performance at the 20th Senior and 5th Junior World Pencak Silat Championship 2024.

Held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC), the championship saw J&K securing a total of 12 medals, including four gold, three silver, and five bronze, marking an unforgettable achievement.

Medal Tally Highlights

Gold Winners: Sheikh Mohammad Ibrahim, Sanjana Tickoo, Muqadas Muskan, and Aqsa Gulzar.

Silver Medallists: Raja Azlaan Khan, Nehal Zubair, and Aamina Zehra.

Bronze Achievers: Ahmed Taha Masoodi, Junaid Akram, Raja Mahir Khan, Alishba Fatima Jillani, and Suhaib Feroz Jeelani.

Preparation and Support

A senior coach part of the team said that the athletes success stemmed from a rigorous one-month training camp in Srinagar, organized by the Indian Pencak Silat Federation (IPSF). He said that under the expert guidance of coaches Mohd Iqbal and Irfan Aziz Botta, the athletes honed their skills and developed winning strategies.

He added that the unwavering support of the J&K Sports Council and the Pencak Silat Association of J&K played a critical role in enabling this historic feat. He mentioned special recognition to Tariq Ahmad Zargar, Secretary General of IPSF, and Kishor Prakash Yawale, President of IPSF, for their leadership and encouragement.

A member of the association said this achievement is not only a win for Jammu and Kashmir but also a source of inspiration for the youth, proving that with talent, discipline, and support, global success is within reach.
