JIM&WS concludes 149th Basic Mountaineering Course with high success rate

Srinagar, July 21: JIM & WS successfully concluded its 149th Basic Mountaineering Course, held from June 28 to July 21.

A statement said that the course attracted 70 trainees from various parts of the country, with an impressive 69 trainees completing the program.

The comprehensive curriculum covered a wide range of basic mountaineering skills and activities. Participants learned essential techniques such as rope knots, hitches, and coiling; base preparation; anchoring and belaying; bouldering and types of holds; principles of climbing and rappelling; and artificial climbing. The course also included practical training in zip line operations, casualty evacuation, stream crossing, pitch climbing, rope fixing, obstacle navigation, and tent pitching.

Trainees engaged in height gain trekking and attended lectures on mountain terminology, safety protocols, avalanches, and glaciers. They received instruction in snow and ice craft, including various techniques for crevasse and avalanche rescue. The program also featured screenings of mountaineering movies and concluded with written examinations and viva voce evaluations.

Several participants received special recognition for their performance. Consolation awards were presented to DiyaRana, SuhaniShivkumarTiwari, PalakChoudhary, Manjeet, LukSiu Hoi, Bilal Ahmad Dar, AayushPattanayak, NawangGyatso, and Suhail Ahmad Bhat.

In the endurance category, Monika and AyushNautiyal were recognized as the top performers among girls and boys, respectively. Naincy and Bipin Chand received accolades for best technique in their respective gender categories.
