Jammu witnesses first calm night after turmoil, sleeps without sirens
Jammu, May 12: Indian Army Monday stated that with no reports of overnight incidents, the intervening night of May 11 and 12 marked the ìfirst calm night in recent days.î
However, on Monday night, reports of drone sightings poured in from Samba district and the Kullian area of R S Pura of Jammu district.
Indian Army, however, stated, ìComparatively a very small number of drones have come in the Samba sector. They are being engaged and there is nothing to be alarmed about.î
The locals from Samba stated that a blackout was called, preceded by sirens after drones were intercepted by the air defence system and shot down, triggering booming sounds between 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm or so.
However, after the first wave of drone activity and air defence fire, no drone activity was observed after 9:30 pm or so in Samba. Blackout, however, persisted till the last reports poured in.
Similarly, reports of drone sightings in the Kullian area of R S Pura between 8:25 pm to 8:35 pm were received. Officially, however, none confirmed these reports.
Ironically, these reports were received minutes after the details of DGMOs talks were shared at around 8:40 pm or so.
Talks between DGMOs were held at 5 pm on May 12, 2025. Issues related to continuing the commitment that both sides must not fire a single shot or initiate any aggressive and inimical action against each other were discussed. It was also agreed that both sides consider immediate measures to ensure troop reduction from the borders and forward areas,î the Indian Army stated in its brief statement about the DGMOsí interaction this evening.
Earlier during the day, the Indian Army said, ìThe night remained largely peaceful across Jammu & Kashmir and other areas along the International Border. No incidents have been reported, marking the first calm night in recent days.î
Meanwhile, life fast-paced to normalcy in almost all parts of the Jammu region.
In Jammu city also, all markets opened as usual and remained abuzz with the activities of shoppers and traders. Border residents, both along the International Border and the Line of Control too resumed their routine activities though caution remained a key expression there.
Jammu region had not reported any overnight ceasefire violations and air intrusion. However, the security forces did not lower their guard and asked the people also to remain alert about ìany suspicious activities, anywhere.î
In a related development, the Indian Army alerted the media persons and civilians against suspicious calls by Pakistani Intelligence Operativesî impersonating Indian defence officials.
Indian WhatsApp No 7340921702 is being used by Pakistani Intelligence Operatives (PIO), pretending to be Indian Defence officials, to call journalists and civilians to acquire information on the ongoing situation while ìOperation Sindoorî is in progress. Please do not fall for such attempts, the Army cautioned.
