Jammu-Rajouri-Poonch NH restored after landslides
Rajouri, Aug 16: The strategically vital Jammu-Rajouri-Poonch National Highway was restored after remaining closed for several hours on Saturday afternoon following a massive landslide near Tariq Bridge in Rajouri town.
The incident occurred in the morning hours, following recent rainfall, when a portion of land, along with huge boulders, came crashing down on the road, blocking the movement of vehicles.
Police officials said, fortunately, no vehicle was passing through the stretch at the time of the incident, averting what could have been a major tragedy.
Police authorities immediately suspended traffic on the busy highway to ensure safety while Border Roads Organisation (BRO) teams swung into action to clear the debris.
After hours of hectic clearance work, officials said that the highway was restored for vehicular movement, bringing much relief to commuters and residents who depend on this critical lifeline for connectivity.
