Jammu court convicts railway official in bribery case

The quantum of punishment will be pronounced tomorrow

Srinagar, Mar 12: The Special Judge, Anti Corruption (CBI Cases) Jammu has convicted Tilak Raj, then head goods clerk of the northern railway, who was posted at railway station Jammu in a bribery case.

In a statement, issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), a spokesperson said that CBI had registered the case on 08.07.2013 on a complaint against Tarsem Lal and Kameshwar Singh.

The statement reads that it was alleged that accused were demanding bribe of Rs 22,000 from the complainant for reducing the penalty charges, levied due to delay in lifting the consignment from Railway Station.

"CBI laid a trap on 08.07.2013 and during the trap, the accused Tilak Raj accepted bribe of Rs 20,000 from the complainant, which he shared with other two accused persons as well. The trap team caught all the three accused and arrested them," it reads.

It added that after completion of investigation, chargesheet was filed before the court of Anti Corruption (CBI Cases) Jammu on 02-01-2014 against all the accused and charges were framed against them on 30-04-2014.

"During trial, two accused persons namely Tarsem Lal and Kameshwar Singh expired, hence trial against them was abated. After trial, the court held remaining accused Tilak Raj guilty. Quantum of punishment will be pronounced tomorrow," it reads.

It added that CBI cited 21 witnesses and 31 documents/evidences in support of the charges which stood test of trial in the court.
