Jamiat moves Supreme Court against Centre’s clearance of ‘Udaipur Files’
New Delhi, Jul 24: Jamiat Ulema-i-Hind President Maulana Arshad Madani has filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court challenging the Centre’s decision to approve the release of the film Udaipur Files with six edits. The petition argues that the cuts approved by the Centre are insufficient and that the film vilifies the entire Muslim community reports Livelaw.in.
Madani has also submitted objections in the ongoing batch of petitions related to a Delhi High Court order that had stayed the film’s release pending the Centre’s response to revision pleas.
In his filing, Madani alleges that the film is political propaganda, not a work of artistic expression, and points to the background of the film's producer, Amit Jani, citing previous incidents involving communal provocation and threats. The petition claims the film promotes hate speech and distorts the narrative around the 2022 murder of Kanhaiya Lal by portraying Muslim characters in a negative and stereotypical manner. It argues that the film amounts to targeted vilification, presenting the community as inherently violent and disloyal. (Source Livelaw.in)
