Kupwara, Oct 1: Police in Handwara on Wednesday conducted a raid at the residence of a Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) activist.

A Police spokesman said that the raid was conducted at the residence of Gul Waheed Bhat, son of Habibullah Bhat of Kohinoor Colony, Handwara, who is affiliated with the proscribed organisation Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI).

He said that the raid was carried out in pursuance of investigations related to Case FIR No 29/2019 under Sections 10 and 13 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), registered at Police Station Handwara.

The Police spokesman said that during the raid, searches were conducted in accordance with the due procedure of law.

He said that the operation was aimed at further strengthening the investigation of the case, which pertains to activities prejudicial to the security of the State and maintenance of public order.

The Police spokesman said that the Police have been continuously taking firm action against individuals and groups found involved in unlawful activities, particularly those linked with banned organisations.

“Such operations form part of the broader efforts to dismantle the support structures of unlawful networks and ensure peace, stability, and security in the region,” he said.

The Police spokesman said that Police in Handwara had again reaffirmed its commitment to act firmly against any person found involved in unlawful or anti-national activities.

“Citizens are also requested to extend their full cooperation to the Police and other law enforcement agencies to maintain the hard-earned peace in the district,” he said.
