JAKASICON 2025: J&K chapter of Association of Surgeons of India kickstarts annual conference at GMC Anantnag
Anantang, Jun 20: The 11th Annual Conference of the Jammu & Kashmir State Chapter of the Association of Surgeons of India (ASI), JAKASICON 25, has begun at GMC Anantnag. The mega event is being organised by the Department of General and Minimal Access Surgery, bringing together a distinguished gathering of renowned surgeons, emerging talents, and medical scholars from across the country and abroad.
The theme for the conference is "Delivering value based services to your doorstep". The conference serves as a premier platform for academic exchange, innovation, and mentorship in the field of general and minimal access surgery, said a press release. The conference is being organised under the patronage of Principal GMC Anantnag Prof Dr Rukhsana Najeeb and under the chairmanship of Dr Nazir Wani, Associate Professor and Head department of General and Minimal Access Surgery. The organising secretary for the conference is Dr Manmohan Singh, Associate Professor and surgical gastroenterologist at GMC Anantnag.
Dr Khalid Bashir( Associate Professor), Dr Mohd Zahid Rather( Assistant Professor) and Dr Mir Mujtaba ( Assistant Professor) are organising secretary, Treasurer and chairman registrations respectively. The chief guest for the inaugural ceremony was Prof Shoukat Jeelani. Prof Jeelani has served as the first and founding principal of GMC Anantnag. Among the major highlights of the first day scientific sessions were two high-level panel discussions led by some of the pioneers in Indian surgery, focusing on Laparoscopic management of inguinal hernia and contemporary approaches to gall bladder cancer.
These sessions offered rich insights, practical knowledge, and spirited discussion, drawing active engagement from both faculty and participants. A special felicitation ceremony was held to honor the contributions of senior surgeons from South Kashmir. Conferring of the lifetime achievement award upon Prof Dr Mohammad Yousuf Wani was done in recognition of his outstanding service, leadership, and mentorship in the surgical field over the decades. The conference will continue for 3 days and shall conclude on June 22.
