Jaishankar praises JKSA for acknowledging efforts to repatriate Kashmiri students from Bangladesh

Srinagar, Aug 12: Union External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar on Saturday wrote back to the J&K Students Association, expressing his gratitude for acknowledging the Govt of India’s efforts in repatriating 3,500 Kashmiri students from violence-hit Bangladesh.

This response follows the J&K Students Association’s efforts last month when they raised the issue of 3,500 Kashmiri students studying in Bangladesh.

The Association had written to the External Affairs Minister, demanding their return to India, as families back home were worried, anxious, and scared due to the ongoing violence in Bangladesh.

The timely and coordinated efforts of the MEA, along with Dr Jaishankar’s personal intervention, ensured that almost all 3,500 Kashmiri students safely returned to India and reached their native places. “The prompt assistance provided by the MEA brought immense relief to the anxious and frightened families in Kashmir and was hailed and appreciated by the J&K Students Association.”

In his letter to National Convenor of Association Nasir Khuehami, Dr Jaishankar thanked him for acknowledging efforts and informed Khuehami that the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), in close coordination with the High Commissioner in Dhaka and other Indian diplomatic missions in Bangladesh, acted swiftly and worked diligently with local authorities to ensure the safe and secure return of all stranded Indian students, including those from Kashmir.

Dr Jaishankar emphasised that the well-being of the Indian diaspora, including Kashmiri students, is a top priority for the Government of India. “The government remains committed to extending all possible assistance to its nationals, wherever they may be,” the Minister affirmed.
