J-K: 200 units of free electricity for households with meters installed, says CM Omar
Srinagar, Jan 02: The Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister on Thursday said that the government will be able to provide 200 units of electricity for free to consumers only if meters are installed.
Speaking during a media interaction in Srinagar, CM Omar Abdullah said once the government will roll out the scheme in March or April month, only those consumers will be benefited who have meters installed.
"We measure units only in those houses where we meters are installed. We cannot measure units in the houses which do not have proper agreements," Omar Abdullah said.
He said that the government was providing better electricity supply as compared to past year, despite having winter season in place.
"Once we have more meters, it will result in less pilferage. That is our aim. The J&K government is working with Union power ministry to improve the situation in terms of electricity. All the reforms will be taken to logical conclusion," he said.
About the unscheduled power cuts, CM Omar Abdullah said that the unscheduled cuts occur only at the time of maintenance for which he said that the power department has been asked to properly advertise the schedule.
"The unscheduled cuts occur when some repairs have to take place like a transformer catches fire or it goes out of order. But the department has been asked to notify the schedule of power cuts when it is done for maintenance purpose," he said.
