IUST takes career counselling drive across Kashmir
Awantipora, Jun 17: The Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) has concluded an extensive outreach and career counselling campaign across Kashmir, aimed at guiding students on academic and professional pathways available through the university.
Organised by the School of Engineering and Technology, the initiative covered key districts in South, Central, and North Kashmir, marking one of the university’s most comprehensive community engagement efforts to date.
As part of the campaign, five dedicated teams comprising around 20 faculty members from various engineering and technology departments visited nearly 25 higher secondary institutions in Pulwama, Shopian, Budgam, and other districts. The focus of the drive was to bridge the gap between aspiration and opportunity by offering students first-hand insights into higher education prospects, research opportunities, and the culture of innovation nurtured at IUST.
“This outreach was designed not just to inform, but to inspire,” said Dr. Kaiser J. Giri, Dean of the School of Engineering and Technology. “It is our responsibility as an academic institution to ensure that students, regardless of geography or background, are aware of the avenues available to them.”
The visiting teams conducted interactive sessions with students, introduced them to the university’s academic ecosystem, and emphasised IUST’s focus on fostering entrepreneurship and holistic development. The initiative also spotlighted the university’s infrastructure and support for innovation, helping students better visualise their academic future.
Students and school administrators across the Valley responded enthusiastically to the visits. “The sessions were informative and encouraging. Many of our students had never interacted with university faculty before — this made a real impact,” said a principal of a higher secondary school in Pulwama.
Dr. Giri expressed appreciation for the participating faculty members and reaffirmed IUST’s long-term commitment to outreach and engagement. “We will continue to take our message beyond the campus walls. Building future-ready students starts with empowering them early, and that’s a promise we intend to keep.”
