Awantipora, Sep 4: As part of the Industry Connect initiative, the Department of Electrical Engineering at the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) organized a visit for its students to Northern Railways, Banihal.

The visit provided students with an opportunity to experience the live operation of various electrical equipment managed through advanced control systems, including Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems. This hands-on exposure allowed the students to understand the complexities of industrial automation and the critical role of precise control in railway operations.

A key highlight of the visit was a tour inside one of the tunnels, where students were introduced to essential safety and operational equipment. They gained insights into critical systems that ensure smooth and secure functioning within the tunnel, such as ventilation systems, fire detection and suppression mechanisms, and emergency communication setups. This experience underscored the stringent safety standards required in high-risk environments.

The industrial visit is part of the Department of Electrical Engineering's ongoing collaboration with the Industry Connect Vertical of the Dean Outreach. These visits aim to provide students with practical exposure beyond theoretical learning, offering them a comprehensive understanding of the advanced technologies adopted by the industry to meet future challenges.
