India is often referred to as Bharat Mata, or Mother India. Yet, despite this reverence, it has become the fourth most dangerous place for women to live in. This stark contradiction begs the question: how did we get here?

What defines a woman? Is it the shade of pink or purple she wears, a bright lipstick, or high heels? No, a woman is defined by her courage and confidence. She deserves respect, and should not be considered a sinner if your three-course meal isn't served on time.

Some may label me a feminist, but what is feminism? To me, it means giving equal importance and rights to both men and women. There are men in our society who respect and value women; they too deserve respect. But today, I want to address the exploitation of women. I want to talk about women forced into prostitution, subjected to domestic violence, marital rape, and sex trafficking. Centuries pass like clouds in a clear sky, but has the world become any better for women?

According to data, more than 10 million female fetuses have been aborted since the 1990s. The World Economic Forum emphasizes five dimensions of women's empowerment and gender equality: welfare, access, conscientization, participation, and control. Women's empowerment can be defined in many ways, including accepting women's viewpoints, seeking them out, and raising the status of women through education, awareness, literacy, and training. It equips and allows women to make life-determining decisions despite societal problems. Empowered women can redefine gender roles, granting them the freedom to pursue their goals.

Several principles define women's empowerment. To be empowered, one must come from a position of disempowerment. Empowerment must be acquired rather than given by an external party. Studies have found that empowerment involves having the capability to make important decisions and act on them. Empowerment is a process, not a product.

Women's empowerment is not just a goal; it is a moral imperative and a path to a better future. When we empower women, we uplift communities, strengthen economies, and create a just and equitable world.
