IT Deptt holds tax awareness programme at Mini Secretariat Bandipora
Srinagar, Jan 8: The Income Tax Department on Thursday organised a tax awareness programme at the Mini Secretariat, Bandipora, aimed at sensitising traders, professionals and government officials about tax compliance and upcoming changes in tax laws.
A statement said that the programme was led by Shakil Ahmad Ganie, Joint Commissioner of Income Tax (OSD), Srinagar, a 2016-batch officer of the Indian Revenue Service. In his address, Ganie highlighted the importance of income tax in national development and assured participants that grievances related to taxation would be addressed expeditiously.
A detailed presentation was delivered by Abhineet Jhorar, Income Tax Officer, Srinagar, who underlined the need for timely compliance and accurate declaration of income. He also briefed the gathering about the forthcoming changes in tax legislation, stating that the proposed Income Tax Act, 2025, would come into effect from April 1, 2026.
Special emphasis during the programme was laid on the timely payment of advance tax and the correct reporting of income. Participants were informed about various provisions of the Income Tax Act and key changes through presentations, followed by an interactive question-and-answer session.
The programme was attended by local traders, including office bearers of the District Traders Association, Contractors Association and Private Diagnostic Centres Association. Officers from various government departments were also present, including State Taxes Officer Sajad Ahmad and District Mineral Officer Ghulam Nabi Pintoo.
Senior Inspector Ajay Sanghwan proposed the vote of thanks, acknowledging the cooperation and facilitation provided by the district administration. Ganie, in particular, thanked Indu Kanwal, Deputy Commissioner Bandipora, for the support extended in ensuring the smooth conduct of the programme.
Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Commissioner encouraged participants to adopt sound tax planning and financial management practices in their professional and economic activities.
